On Election Night, Rock The Results with College Council and SGA

Tomorrow night come out to McDonough Field starting at 6pm for the largest election results party Emory has ever seen!  The Varsity will be serving free dinner from 6-7pm.  We'll be watching the results come in on a giant screen!  There will also be live music, games, prizes, and more!  We'll even have blankets and heaters so don't worry if its cold.  Come join us from 6pm until we have our next President!  Contact College Council Legislators Jibran Shermohammed, Sarika Kasaraneni, Gina Chirillo, or College Council Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst for more information.  
 

Tomorrow is Election Day!  Go Vote!  Free Shuttles to the Polls!

Tomorrow is Election Day and College Council encourages you to exercise your civic duty and vote.  To help, there will be a special edition of the Emory Experience Shuttles sponsored by College Council, SGA, and CSAmerica to Druid Hills High School/Emory Presbyterian Church.  If you live on campus, you vote at one of these locations.  Make sure to bring identification with you. Shuttles will be running from behind the DUC every 15 minutes from 10am-7pm.  Contact College Council Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst or College Council Legislator Jenna Kelsey for more information.  

Help College Council Improve Wireless Internet in the Dorms

State of Race: Come Win At Wonderful Wednesday!

College Councils 9th Annual State of Race event is happening November 17th at Glenn Memorial. The event begins at 7pm with speaker Dr. Bevery Tatum, who is the president of Spelman College and the leading authority of resegregation at higher level institutions. She has been named one of the most influential Georgians and is the author of acclaimed books, Can We Talk About Race?: And Other Conversations in an Era of School Resegregation and Why Are All The Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?": A Psychologist Explains the Development of Racial Identity. Come to this WW for your chance to win one of her books from College Council and to learn more about the diversity problem not just afflicting Emory, but our peer institutions around the nation. Project Finding Common Ground - Only 10 Days Left!

College Council is launching a new program to encourage inter-group relations on Emory's campus called Project Finding Common Ground. College Council chartered organizations could receive $1000 for their co - sponsorship event. There is only 10 days left to submit your application!! Experience the Virginia Highlands  

Interested in getting off campus? Take the Emory Experience shuttles this Saturday to the Virginia Highlands! Restaurants, shopping, and more are all just a short ride away. Shuttles will be leaving from behind the DUC on the half-hour from 6:00 PM to 11:30pm. Shuttles leave the Highlands outside Murphy's on the hour with the last shuttle leaving for campus at midnight. College Council FAME Survey - Last Chance!

Want to speak your mind about FAME? Have suggestions you think could improve the program? Whether you had a wonderful or horrible experience, we want to hear about it! All you have to do is fill out College Council's FAME Survey that will be on LearnLink within the next week! As your representatives, we want to relay your concerns and comments to the Administration. We are looking for feedback from all first year students who participated in the program this year. And just to make the deal a little sweeter, everyone who fills out a survey will be entered into a raffle for a free I-POD Touch! If you have any questions or concerns please contact Student Concerns Chair Shifali Baliga, Sophomore Legislator Nik Kundra, or any of your new Freshman Reps - Philip Chang, Gina Chirillo, Eli Recht, or Seth Schortz - with any questions!
 

Return of the Dooley Direct Shuttles!

Need a late-night on-campus ride?  Remember you can take the Dooley Direct shuttles every Friday and Saturday night!  These shuttles have stops at Clairmont, Turman, Woodruff Residential Center, and Eagle Row about every 20 minutes 11 pm - 3 am on weekends.  Contact Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst or President Elizabeth Farrar with any questions.

Meet Our Legislators!

This week's legislators are Jenna Kelsey(left) and Jocelyn Shieh(right)! Jenna and Jocelyn are both Senior Legislators on the 53rd College Council. They are working on some exciting projects so look out for them in the next issue of College Council Connects!

Emory School of Medicine Pipeline Program: Recruiting New Sophomore Applicants!

The Emory School of Medicine Pipeline Program, is a student-led academic and guidance mentor program run by Emory College and Emory School of Medicine students which serves students from an inner city Atlanta school. The 2nd yr undergrads and med students teach scientific concepts to the high school students and serve as mentors and encourage them to pursue college of higher education.  LearnLink "Pipeline Student Organizers" conference for application and more information.  Applications are due November 14, 2008.  

UNICEF -Children's Rights Awareness Carnival

(directly following the movie) Winship Ballroom (DUC)
A dozen or so booths sponsored by Emory's student run clubs and Atlanta area NGOs regarding children's rights issues. Write advocacy letters, buy Invisible Children merchandise, make birthday cards for the children in Uganda.  There will be carnival games as well as raffle prizes for Barnes & Noble, iTunes gift cards. Lots of food from various local restaurants!  Please contact Catherine Leng via LL for more information.

NAACP would like to invite you to come out to our programs this month!

On Novemner 11th, at 7:30 pm we will be co-sponsoring a movie screening with Student Health and Counseling Services. The screening of "Hip-Hope Beyond Beats & Rhymes" will be viewed in White Hall 207. On November 20th, we will be hosting a spoken word night that will correspond with the Unity Month theme of "Lessons Learned." Location and time are TBA. If you are interested in performing, or would like more information on the program, please contact Jessica Burris. Also, on November 23rd, we will be hosting "Soulfood Sunday." The event will take place at 6:00 pm in the Faculty Dining Room. Come out for fellowship and food! Feel free to contact the chapter president, Sophia Hall, with any further questions.
