Attention Class of 2011: College Council Presents Sophomore Reorientation Tues. 9/16!

Second-year students: feel like you still might not know about all the resources Emory has to offer?  Maybe you need help editing your resume or finding an internship.  Or maybe you want to make sure you're on track for med school or law school, or in a position to be able to study abroad next year.  Lucky for you, College Council wants to help!

Join us for a special Sophomore Reorientation on Tuesday, September 16, in the Coke Commons from 11 am - 2 pm!  Representatives from Academic Advising, the Career Center, CIPA, the Emory Alumni Association, the Sophomore Class Gift Committee, the Sophomore Pinning Ceremony Planning Committee, the Second Year at Emory Program, the Center for Student Leadership and Engagement, the Writing Center, the Center for Women, EPASS, and undergraduate research will all be available to pass out information relevant to you and answer questions.  College Council will be there with Reorientation Guides and lots of free food, including Chipotle and Smoothie King!

** Make sure to be there at 1:30 - President Wagner will be there to share a few remarks, right after Chipotle arrives!  If you have any questions, College Council Chief of Staff Reema Dedania, President Elizabeth Farrar, Student Concerns Chair Shifali Baliga, Asst. Student Concerns Chair Helen Cheung, and Senior Legislator Dhruv Jaggia all worked to make this event possible.

And later on – Food and Feedback: An Amethyst Discussion

ISC, IFC and College Council are cosponsoring an informal discussion regarding the Amethyst Initiative, underage drinking, and Emory's current alcohol policies. With Alcohol Prevention program coordinator, Virginia Plummer, available to answer questions, the forum will allow students to share their opinions regarding this relevant and important issue. Free pizza and an interesting discussion guaranteed! September 16, 7 PM in the Sorority Village. Contact Vice President Ashlee Tran for more details.

COMING SOON: Save the Date for the year’s first College Council Blood Drive!

Mark your calendars!  College Council will be hosting a Blood Drive on the bottom floor of the WoodPEC on September 24, 2008 from 11AM to 4PM. Come out, join the cause, and receive a FREE GIFT as well as a drawing to win a $1,000 Gas Card from the American Red Cross. Co-sponsored by the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.  Contact Sophomore Legislator Nik Kundra with any questions.

This Saturday: Ride the Emory Experience Shuttles and Experience Buckhead!

The Emory Experience Shuttles are off to a great start this year and, this Saturday, we're trying something new with the first-ever Buckhead Loop!  Get off campus and check out one of Atlanta's trendiest neighborhoods.  Stops include the AMC Theater at Phipps Plaza, Cheesecake Factory, and ESPN Zone!  Shuttles are FREE and will leave from behind the DUC on Means Drive every thirty minutes on the hour and half hour between 6 PM and 11:30 PM this Saturday, September 20.  Shuttles will pick up from Phipps on the hour and half hour 6:30 PM - midnight and pick up from Peachtree/Pharr Rd on the :10 and :40 starting at 6:40 with the last pick-up at 12:10 AM.  Contact Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst or Senior Legislator Jenna Kelsey for more information.

Return of the Dooley Direct Shuttles!

Need a late-night on-campus ride?  Remember you can take the Dooley Direct shuttles every Friday and Saturday night!  These shuttles have stops at Clairmont, Turman, Woodruff Residential Center, and Eagle Row about every 20 minutes 11 pm - 3 am on weekends.  Contact Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst or President Elizabeth Farrar with any questions.

Free Newspapers from College Council are back!

College Council is happy to announce that the Collegiate Readership Program, which features free copies of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, is back for the new school year.  Newspapers are available in the DUC, Cox Hall, Sorority Village, White Hall, and the Clairmont Shuttle Stop.   This year we have newspaper boxes that require you to swipe your EmoryCard to get the papers.  Your card will not be charged, this just makes sure students are getting the newspapers.   Please contact Chief of Staff Benjamin van der Horst with any questions.
